Is Botox Right for Your Droopy Brow?
Botox is widely recognized as a frown-line reducer. Adults of all ages typically know the brand name neuromodulator as a safe and effective anti-ager that makes a perfect complement to dermal fillers for a younger-looking face. In addition to smoothing dynamic wrinkles, Botox has also become known as a nonsurgical brow-lifter. Here, we discuss how you might discern the value of this option for your droopy brow.
What Is a BOTOX Brow Lift?
Botox is able to eliminate dynamic wrinkles because this FDA-approved drug works on the muscle. Injections of this or another neuromodulator relax muscle movements to release the overlying skin. With age and repeated facial movements around the eyes and forehead, muscles may pull one or both eyebrows down below the upper orbital rim. When the brow falls below this bony structure, the eyes look older, tired, or possibly sad or angry. Injecting a muscle-relaxing neuromodulator into a target area of the forehead, the brow is released to sit at its natural position.
How Does a BOTOX Brow Lift Compare to a Surgical Brow Lift?
There are more differences between the Botox brow lift and a surgical brow lift than similarities. Where some patients like the idea of injectable treatment, these differences should be understood. Getting Botox takes less than half an hour in most cases. There is no downtime other than a few minor restrictions for 24 to 48 hours. These are benefits, yes. On the other hand, the effects of Botox may last only 3 to 4 months. At some point, many patients decide they want longer lasting results. This is where the surgical brow lift offers rewarding benefits.
A surgical brow lift is performed in an outpatient surgery center. Patients may receive general or twilight anesthesia, and will need 10 to 14 days to fully recover from their procedure. Side effects like bruising and swelling are expected and patients may need prescription pain medication for a few days. After this brief recovery period, though, the results of the surgical brow lift are long-lasting and the brow may never require further treatment.
